A master plan was developed for Fairview Park in the early 2000s; however, the 2008 financial crisis changed the trajectory of that plan and ultimately, it did not come to fruition. When W.O.Riley park was updated in 2014, many of the park and recreation needs identified in the original Fairview plan were met, such as a stage and tennis courts, compelling the Town to reexamine current assets, needs and priorities.

Town Council funded an update to the Larry D. Bradford Fairview Park Master Plan using American Rescue Plan Act funds that seeks to inventory existing parks, consider current and future community needs and amenities, and develop a phased plan to implement quality, realistic, and maintainable amenities.

The Town of Woodstock is committed to hearing from the community about what they would like to see developed at this park. In an effort to keep the community informed and engaged, there will be multiple ways to stay informed and contribute.

Design Committee

Mayor McCleary appointed a special ad hoc committee to guide the process of updating Larry D. Bradford Fairview Park Master Plan. Additional information on the Design Committee can be found using the tab on the left. 

Stakeholders

Certain heavy users of our park system have been identified and will be in close communication and my be interviewed during the planning process. Groups identified as stakeholders include Shenandoah County Public Schools, Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation, Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, and sports teams that use Town facilities such as the cross country and baseball teams. 

Public Forum

There will be two stakeholder forums hosted by the Design Committee which will occur toward the beginning of the design phase and then once suggested changes have been added to the plan. They will both be public meetings and will be set up in such a manner to collect feedback. 

The Design Committee was appointed by Mayor McCleary at the Council Meeting on September 5, 2023 to guide the process of updating Larry D. Bradford Fairview Park Master Plan. 

Committee members are volunteering their time to disseminate information to others, provide feedback on tactics/ideas, make recommendations at decision points, attend the virtual kickoff meeting, host two (2) stakeholder forums during the planning process, and make a recommendation to Town Council at the end of the process.
